In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Escape are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Corsair doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Escape has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Both the Escape and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

There are over 5 times as many Ford dealers as there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Escape’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford above average in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Ford 1 place higher in reliability than Lincoln.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Escape 1.5 Turbo’s fuel efficiency. The Corsair doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The Escape FWD’s standard fuel tank has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring’s standard fuel tank (14.8 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Escape stops much shorter than the Corsair:

The Escape AWD handles at .87 G’s, while the Corsair Reserve AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Escape ST-Line Elite AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Corsair Premiere AWD (27.3 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

The Ford Escape may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 950 pounds less than the Lincoln Corsair.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Escape is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $490 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Escape than the Corsair, including $207 less for a water pump, $75 less for front brake pads, $5 less for a starter, $203 less for fuel injection, $214 less for a fuel pump, $69 less for front struts and $457 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Ford Escape will be $8744 to $12149 less than for the Lincoln Corsair.

The Ford Escape outsold the Lincoln Corsair by almost six to one during 2023.
